Information of Short Frenulum surgery (Frenuloplasty) in Sevilla

  • Short Frenulum (Frenuloplasty) surgery information

On this page you will be able to find all the information related to the surgical process to solve the problems caused by the short frenulum; frenuloplasty is an operation performed at the Centro Urologico San Ignacio, by the Urology Team (CUSI).

short frenulum is an anomaly that affects the length of this structure of the penis that joins the foreskin to the glans penis. When this is the case, it is perceived as difficulty in drawing back the foreskin, making it impossible to uncover the glans completely.

It is possible to solve the anomaly with exercises and applications of ointments that help to improve the elasticity of the skin, although the most effective solution is surgery. Depending on the type of problem, circumcision, frenuloplasty or frenulectomy may be performed.

Below, we explain the reasons why frenuloplasty is used, as well as the whole process involved in this operation and its benefits for improving your health and general quality of life.

  • The main objective of the short frenulum surgery, frenuloplasty or frenulectomy, is to solve the symptoms and problems caused by this anomaly.

It is possible to develop a short frenulum due to factors such as: frenulum breakage, infections, phimosis or genetic inheritance.

Thanks to frenuloplasty or frenulectomy, the point of tension is released and the short frenulum is repaired. To do this, the urologist sections the frenulum and removes the excess skin circumcising the frenulum, thus achieving both an aesthetic and functional result.

  • On the day set for your consultation with the Urology Team (CUSI), you must go to see the specialist where, at the Centro Urologico San Ignacio, after the introductions and identifying yourself as a patient of Operarme, the medical interview will begin.

In this interview, the specialist will ask you about the symptoms you perceive and the discomfort caused by the short frenulum, explaining the possibilities offered by frenuloplasty.

The specialist will then perform a physical examination of the area to determine the best way to perform the procedure and explain how the process will be carried out.

After this, and in the event that you decide to go ahead with surgery, you will be able to set a date for the intervention at the Centro Urologico San Ignacio.

    Frenuloplasty

In the case of the short frenulum operation, the doctor may request a coagulation analysis to check the healing capacity.

The price of frenuloplasty surgery at Operarme is fixed and all-inclusive.

After the consultation, the following day, Operarme's patient service department will contact you to see how the consultation went and to confirm whether or not you have decided to have the surgery.

If so, your personal patient service advisor will arrange the day of the coagulation analysis, if necessary, as well as the day of admission to the hospital, explaining all the steps to follow, in terms of documentation, payment of the surgery,... ; as well as answering any questions you may have during the process.

  • On the day set for the blood test at the Centro Urologico San Ignacio, you will have to present the necessary documentation that our patient care team will have indicated to you. Only one test will be carried out:

    • Coagulation analysis: this allows you to find out whether or not the patient's blood is clotting correctly.

Normally, in more complex surgeries, several additional tests are carried out, such as a chest X-ray or an electrocardiogram. In the case of the short frenulum surgery, as it is a very simple operation performed under local anaesthesia, it is not necessary.

  • Frenulectomy is an operation that is performed under local anaesthesia and on an outpatient basis, so you can go home on your own after the operation. The short frenulum intervention consists of the following:

When you enter the operating theatre, the team of doctors will instruct you to face upwards, in the same way as women are positioned during childbirth, i.e. with your legs raised and spread.

    Frenuloplasty

You will be covered with a surgical drape, leaving only the penis area uncovered.

You will then be washed and disinfected and the local anaesthetic will be administered, waiting for it to take effect so that the frenulectomy can begin:

    • Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, the specialist will section off the excess part of the foreskin, in cases where circumcision is required.
    • The next step will be to cut the frenulum so that the area is relaxed and the necessary stitches will be placed. The stitches are absorbable and will fall out on their own.
    • Finally, the area will be bandaged and the nursing team will explain the postoperative care of the surgical wound, as well as some medical instructions.

As you have read above, this is an outpatient surgery, so you will be able to go home when it is over.

The duration of this intervention is approximately 20 - 30 minutes. As for recovery, it takes 2 - 4 weeks after the surgery.

  • By operating on the short frenulum, the glans penis can be fully uncovered and as a direct result, sexual intercourse will be more pleasurable by eliminating discomfort and tension.

Another advantage of frenulum surgery is that by uncovering the entire glans penis, the appearance of the penis can be about 0.5 cm longer, but the penis remains the same.

Short frenulum surgery is a very simple intervention, performed under local anaesthesia and on an outpatient basis.

After the frenulum operation, the risk of the frenulum tearing during sexual intercourse disappears completely.
