Information of No-scalpel Vasectomy

01. Information about no-scalpel vasectomy

A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure that prevents sperm from reaching the semen that is ejaculated through the penis. It serves as a permanent method of contraception for men who do not wish to have children or who already have the number of children they desire.

Unlike a conventional vasectomy, the no-scalpel vasectomy involves a tiny puncture in the skin, just a few millimeters wide, with no need for stitches afterward. This technique offers a faster recovery and less discomfort.

02. What is a vasectomy?

vasectomy is a permanent method of contraception recommended for men who no longer wish to have children. It is a minor surgical procedure that prevents sperm from appearing in the semen that is ejaculated through the penis.

During a vasectomy, the vas deferens (the tubes that carry sperm) are cut to stop sperm from being present in the semen. After the procedure, ejaculation still occurs as usual, but the semen no longer contains sperm, so fertilization of an egg is not possible. However, the volume and quality of the semen remain the same.

Vasectomy is more than 99% effective as a contraceptive method.

03. Why is a vasectomy performed?

When a man decides to have a vasectomy, he should be fully aware of the reasons for undergoing the procedure, as well as its long-term consequences.

After a vasectomy, there is no possibility of causing a pregnancy.

Vasectomy is more than 99% effective as a contraceptive method. While the procedure can sometimes be reversed, the chances of successfully fertilizing an egg after reversal are significantly lower.

Letters spelling the word vasectomy

The reasons why a man might opt for a vasectomy include the following:

  • A vasectomy serves as a permanent method of contraception, allowing you to engage in sexual intercourse without the risk of causing a pregnancy.
  • Your partner may have health issues that prevent her from using contraceptive treatments. In this case, a vasectomy is the appropriate surgery to prevent fertilization of the egg.
  • A vasectomy is a less invasive and lower-cost procedure compared to female sterilization. Therefore, it may also be chosen as an alternative to abdominal surgery for tubal ligation in your partner.

04. Request a consultation with a urology specialist

If you're considering the less invasive method for your vasectomy, it's essential to have a consultation with a urology specialist to determine if you're suitable for the no-scalpel procedure.

At Operarme, we offer a free surgical assessment with one of our specialists. During this consultation, you can address any questions you may have regarding the no-scalpel vasectomy.

Additionally, if the urologist deems it necessary, you will be scheduled for preoperative study. This study may include blood work.

Since it is a minimally invasive surgery, the no-scalpel vasectomy does not require a complete preoperative stage. However, if performed, a blood analysis may be done to ensure that you do not have any conditions that would contraindicate the no-scalpel vasectomy.

To book a consultation with the urologist, you can contact us by filling out the contact form or calling our patient service number at +34 91 141 33 56.

05. How is a no-scalpel vasectomy performed?

A vasectomy is the surgical method in which a man is sterilized to eliminate the risk of pregnancy from unprotected sexual intercourse.

Before explaining the details of the procedure, it is important to understand how the male reproductive system works and how fertilization occurs.

Sperm are the male reproductive cells and are developed in the testicles. When a man reaches sexual climax, sperm move from the testicles through the vas deferens. The sperm combines with various fluids to form semen, which is then ejaculated through the urethra.

During a vasectomy, the vas deferens are cut and tied to prevent sperm from reaching the semen, eliminating the risk of pregnancy. The body absorbs the sperm without causing any harm to the organism.

After the vasectomy, you will continue to ejaculate in the same way but will no longer be fertile.

Two methods can be used to perform a vasectomy. The first and most conventional method involves cutting and tying the vas deferens through two incisions in the skin.

In contrast, the no-scalpel vasectomy does not require a large incision in the skin, only a small one a few millimeters wide. Additionally, no sutures are needed, as a small bandage or adhesive is sufficient.

The no-scalpel vasectomy is performed as follows:

  1. First, the anesthetist will inject medication into the area to numb it.
  2. Then, the surgeon will use forceps to make a small puncture in the scrotum, the sac that holds the testicles.
  3. Through the puncture, the vas deferens is located, the tube through which the sperm pass.
  4. Part of the vas deferens is extracted through the puncture, and a cut is made in it.
  5. Finally, the vas deferens is sealed by cauterizing it or using surgical clips. The doctor will then place the ends of the vas deferens back inside the scrotum.
  6. To complete the procedure, the doctor will place a waterproof dressing over the wound.

06. Recovery from No-Scalpel Vasectomy

The no-scalpel vasectomy is performed with a puncture in the scrotum, which will heal quickly. This procedure does not require sutures, so no scars will be left.

The no-scalpel vasectomy does not require hospitalization.

The recovery period for the patient is approximately 12 hours. Additionally, it reduces the risk of infection and complications compared to the conventional surgical method.

07. Sexual relations after No-Scalpel Vasectomy

The no-scalpel vasectomy is a contraceptive method with an effectiveness of nearly 100%.

However, the no-scalpel vasectomy does not have immediate effects. Even though the vas deferens are cut, there will still be sperm present in them. Therefore, it is necessary to ejaculate about 10 to 20 times after the surgery before you can engage in sexual intercourse without the risk of pregnancy.

For this reason, it is important to use other contraceptive methods, such as condoms, until that point to prevent fertilization of the egg.

The specialist will inform you about the follow-up test that verifies the moment when the semen no longer contains sperm. The urologist will provide this information at the end of the surgery or during the first surgical assessment consultation.

Once the tests confirm that there is no sperm in the semen, you and your partner will be able to engage in sexual intercourse without using other contraceptive methods, without the fear of causing a pregnancy.

However, although it may seem obvious, it is important to note that a vasectomy will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
