Transrectal ultrasound is a non-invasive test that allows an ultrasound probe to be inserted into the rectum to analyse its structures and diagnose possible abnormalities that may affect the prostate. It also allows the size of the prostate and possible pathologies, such as prostate cysts, to be closely analysed. This test is performed using the ultrasound technique (with a transducer that emits sound waves) and is therefore not harmful to the patient as it does not emit radiation.
