• How long does it take to get a hip replacement in Spain?

  Through Operarme, the waiting time to get hip replacement surgery is estimated between 15-17 days after meeting the surgeon in a first surgical consultation, and confirming the procedure. 

• Is hip replacement a high risk surgery?

  Hip replacement surgery is one the most common and performed surgeries in Spain. It is estimated that around 35.000 hip prostheses are implanted every year in our country.

  Although this intervention does not imply high risk, as in any major surgery, there are low risks of complications.

• How long does a hip replacement surgery last?

  The duration of hip arthroplasty is 1 – 2 hours, depending on several factors.

• How long do you have to stay in the hospital after hip surgery?

  Hospitalization time after hip surgery can vary depending on the type of surgery performed, the patient's general health, and the protocol followed by the medical team.

  Generally, the hospitalization period is usually about 2 to 5 days, but in some cases, it could be shorter or longer. Read more.

• How long does recovery from hip replacement surgery take?

  The total recovery time after hip replacement surgery ranges between 2 and 6 months.

  • If your work does not require much physical effort, you may be able to return to your routine after 2 months.
  • On the other hand, to perform tasks that require a little more intensity, rehabilitation of 4 - 6 months may be necessary. Read more.
• How much should you walk after hip surgery?

  After hip surgery, the specialist or physiotherapist will recommend how and how much the patient should walk, in most cases, on the same day of the operation or the next day.

  It must be taken into account that in the early stages of recovery, the objective is to mobilize the area and prevent stiffness and/or complications. To do this, it is recommended to walk very short distances with the help of a walker, crutches or canes.

  As recovery progresses, it is common for the patient to walk several times a day for 5-10 minutes and increase the time and distance. 

• Do I have to take a PCR test before surgery?

  Currently our collaborating hospitals and surgeons do not ask patients to take a PCR test as a mandatory requirement to enter the operating room.

  If exceptionally this test would be required by the hospital or surgeon, we inform you that the PCR test is not included in the price of the surgery.
