  • Hysterectomy is the most common surgery used to treat serious gynaecological conditions such as heavy bleeding, fibroids, endometriosis, pelvic organ prolapse, and even cervical neoplasia, which in some cases may progress to cervical cancer.

The uterus and/or cervix can be affected by various conditions, making hysterectomy a life-saving treatment for patients with severe diagnoses such as cervical cancer. In cases of cervical neoplasia, hysterectomy usually involves removal of the cervixand may also include the removal of one or both ovaries, depending on the clinical situation.

This procedure can be carried out through different surgical approaches. However, if you have been diagnosed with cervical neoplasia, the most suitable treatment may be robotic hysterectomy.

During your surgical assessment consultation, the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud will determine whether you are an ideal candidate for this approach using the Da Vinci Surgical System.

What are the advantages of the da Vinci Robot for Hysterectomy?

Da Vinci Surgical System is designed to offer the surgeon enhanced capabilities compared to traditional techniques, such ashigh-definition 3D vision and depth perception

Although referred to as a “robot,” the Da Vinci system does not operate independently. It is always the surgeon, seated at a console, who performs the procedure by translating their hand movements into precise, controlled actions.

The Da Vinci system enables complex surgical procedures to be performed through tiny incisions.

However, it will be your doctor who advises and determines whether this technique is suitable for your individual case, as it is not appropriate for every woman.

For this reason, Operarme offers a surgical assessment consultation with the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud so they can assess whether this is the best approach for your condition.

The Da Vinci Robot, when used for hysterectomy due to cervical neoplasia, represents a state-of-the-art surgical technique that enhances the surgeon’s movements and makes the overall surgical process more precise and minimally invasive.

Robotic hysterectomy offers a wide range of benefits, especially when compared to more traditional approaches, including:

    • Significant reduction in pain
    • Less blood loss and reduced need for transfusions
    • Lower risk of infection
    • Shorter hospital stays
    • Faster return to normal daily activities
    • Small incisions for minimal scarring
    • Better outcomes and higher patient satisfaction in many cases

As mentioned earlier, the Da Vinci Robot is the most advanced technology available for performing a hysterectomy due to cervical neoplasia. However, it is essential to be in the hands of an experienced surgical team.

Operarme partners with the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud, pioneers in using this technology for this type of procedure.

We offer a free initial surgical assessment so that you can meet the medical team and decide together which surgical technique is best suited to your case of cervical neoplasia. In the following section, we explain how to request an appointment with the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud through Operarme.

  • Robotic hysterectomy for cervical neoplasia is carried out by the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud.

Once the Operarme Patient Service Advisor and you agree on a date for your consultation with the the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud, you will be informed of all the documentation you need to bring with you:

    • Surgical assessment consultation voucher: this will be sent to you via email once the consultation is booked.
    • Medical tests and reports related to your gynaecological condition: this information will help the specialist evaluate the feasibility of the surgery.

It is important to understand that this is a consultation to assess surgical options in your case of cervical neoplasia

A diagnosis will not be made during this visit — you must already have a confirmed diagnosis and bring all relevant tests and results so that the medical team can review your clinical history and determine whether surgery is necessary.

During this first consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. It is a good time to clarify any doubts regarding the procedure, recovery process, anaesthesia, or any other concerns.

If the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud concludes that this surgical approach is the best option for your case, the doctor will offer possible dates for any required pre-operative tests, as well as for the surgery itself, should you choose to proceed.

  • robotic hysterectomy for cervical neoplasia always requires a preoperative assessment. This stage includes all essential tests for any case involving this type of hysterectomy:

    • Full blood test: This includes a complete blood count, coagulation profile, and biochemistry. These tests provide the anaesthetist with key information such as platelet count, potential clotting issues and/or anaemia, possible infections, and the levels of electrolytes (sodium and potassium) in your blood.
    • Electrocardiogram (ECG): This test provides data on heart rhythm, electrical conduction, structural abnormalities, and overall heart function, helping to prevent potential complications during surgery.
    • Chest X-ray: This allows the anaesthetist to identify any bone abnormalities in the chest, check for correct tracheal alignment, or detect signs of infection.

Once the preoperative assessments are completed and the results have been analysed, you will have a consultation with the anaesthetist. During this consultation, the appropriate anaesthesia levels will be determined for your surgery, and any potential risks will be assessed — such as allergies, respiratory issues, or heart conditions.

  • After completing your preoperative assessment and reviewing the results, the only thing left is to attend the surgery on the date agreed between you and the specialist during your consultation.

Below is a breakdown of what you can expect on the day of the procedure—from your arrival at the hospital to your full recovery from the robotic hysterectomy for cervical neoplasia.

Upon arrival at the hospital, you will go to the admissions desk to hand in all the required documentation. Don’t worry about this—remember that you will have a personal advisor from Operarme who will guide you throughout the entire process, so you can focus solely on your health.

Later, the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud will take you to the operating theatre area, where you will be given surgical clothing to wear for the procedure.

The Robotic Surgery Team for the Da Vinci hysterectomy at the La Salud Hospital includes:

    • The surgeon you met during your consultation, who will operate the robot from the surgical console,
    • An assistant responsible for mobilising the uterus,
    • Another assistant who manages the laparoscopic instruments.

In addition, the anaesthetist will be present throughout the procedure, closely monitoring your vital signs.

Once everything is prepared and you are in the operating theatre, the robotic hysterectomy for cervical neoplasia at the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud will follow these steps:

    1. First, the anaesthetist you met during your consultation will administer the appropriate medication to ensure that the hysterectomy proceeds without you being aware of it.
    2. Once the anaesthesia takes effect and you are asleep, trocars (the instruments attached to the arms of the Da Vinci Robot) will be inserted into your abdomen. These will be placed from the right to left anterior-superior iliac spine, passing through your navel, forming an arc.
    3. The robot will be positioned between your legs at a 45-degree angle to allow better access to the vaginal area.
    4. Once in place, the surgeon will use the monitor to visualise all pelvic structures and perform a lavage of the abdominal cavity with saline solution. The fluid will then be collected for cytological analysis to check for cancer cells and to assess whether the disease has spread.
    5. From the console, the surgeon will use scissors and forceps to perform electrocoagulation and cut the round ligament.
    6. The peritoneum is then opened for dissection—an essential step that allows access to the front of the vagina and helps avoid bladder injury.
    7. The uterine artery is electro-dissected and cut using coagulation and cutting tools.
    8. An incision is made in the peritoneum, followed by electrosurgical dissection, and then the uterosacral ligaments are dissected.
    9. The vagina is opened, and the uterus is removed through it.
    10. Finally, an absorbable suture is applied—one of the advantages of robotic surgery. The Da Vinci Robot allows precise suturing using thread fasteners that your body will naturally absorb a few days after the operation.

Robotic hysterectomy for cervical neoplasia typically takes between 60 and 80 minutes.

Once completed, the nursing staff will transfer you to the recovery room until the effects of the anaesthesia have completely worn off.

After that, you will be taken to your hospital room, where you will stay until the surgeon determines that you are ready to be discharged.

  • A robotic hysterectomy for cervical neoplasia is a complex surgical procedure and therefore requires hospital admission. For this reason, once the effects of the anaesthesia have completely worn off, you will be taken to your room, where you will remain until the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud determines that you are ready to be discharged.

However, during your stay at the La Salud Hospital, you will receive all the appropriate care regarding hospitality services, meals, and hygiene.

Da Vinci robotic hysterectomy for cervical neoplasia generally takes between 60 and 80 minutes, although this can vary depending on your individual medical circumstances.

The length of your stay at the La Salud Hospital will ultimately depend on several factors, including the reason for undergoing the hysterectomy, the stage and condition of the cervical neoplasia, and the complexity involved in operating on your cervical condition.

Nevertheless, as this is the least invasive technique, your hospital stay is expected to be shorter compared to more traditional approaches.

  • The hospital stay at the La Salud Hospital typically ranges from 2 to 5 days, as the minimally invasive nature of this technique does not require a lengthy admission. However, the Robotic Surgery Team of Hospital La Salud will ultimately determine the duration of your stay.

For this reason, Operarme includes hospitalisation for up to 5 days following the procedure.

As for complete recovery, your doctor will monitor your progress over approximately six weeks. During this time, you may be asked to undergo routine gynaecological examinations to assess your postoperative recovery following robotic hysterectomy for cervical neoplasia. Depending on the underlying reason for your surgery, pelvic examinations may or may not be necessary.
