Normally, you should not do anything special before an MRI scan. In some cases, you may need to fast for at least 6 hours, but your doctor will tell you this when he or she prescribes the test.

On the day of the MRI scan, you will wear a gown and be asked to remove all metal objects. You will then be positioned on the moving table so that the joint to be examined is within the field of view of the machine's magnet.

During the MRI scan, you may hear loud noises, such as tapping or other sounds, so you may be given earplugs or have music played to reduce the noise.

Once the scan is over, you will be able to leave the machine and go home, no problem.

On the day of the joint MRI you must bring your medical prescription with you.
