Everything you need to know about the STD Plus Test
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are increasing at an alarming rate among young people aged 15 to 24. Additionally, up to 40% of adults admit to having engaged in risky sexual behavior at some point. If a person has been exposed to a microorganism that causes an STI, it is possible to detect the antibodies the body produces in response to the infection.
With the STD Plus Test, you can detect the genetic material of the 7 most common pathogens responsible for sexually transmitted infections early, thanks to PCR technology.
The STD Plus Detection Test allows for the identification of the genetic material of the main pathogens responsible for the most frequent STIs using PCR technique, which provides faster, more sensitive, and more accurate results—even in the early stages of infection.
Who is the STD Plus Detection Test indicated?
To determine whether a person is infected with any of these pathogens, a detection test is necessary. This STD test is especially recommended in the following situations:
- You have never taken an STD test and want to be sure of your status.
- You have had risky sexual contact, even if it was recently.
- You have multiple sexual partners or a new partner.
- You are showing symptoms consistent with a sexually transmitted infection.
- You have been in contact with someone diagnosed with an STI.
Some of the most common symptoms indicating the need for an STD test include:
- Pain or itching in the penis or vagina.
- Genital warts.
- Abnormal vaginal or genital discharge.
- Pelvic pain.
- Vaginal inflammation.
- Genital bleeding.
- Discomfort during sexual intercourse.
Where are samples taken?
The urine sample collection is carried out at Eurofins Laboratories, which operate more than 80 laboratories and collaborate with 1,000 collection points across the entire country.

What sexually transmitted diseases does this test detect?
A person may be infected with one of these sexually transmitted microorganisms without showing symptoms, which makes detection crucial in order to treat infections, prevent transmission, and avoid complications. Through the screening test using a urine sample, three of the most important STIs can be identified.
This test includes a blood analysis (by means of a PCR test) to detect antibodies against the main pathogens:
- HIV: detection of antibodies against the HIV virus and the P24 antigen.
- HCV: detection of antibodies against the hepatitis C virus (HCV).
- HBV: detection of antibodies and surface antigens of the hepatitis B virus (HBV).
The procedure also includes a urine analysis to detect antibodies against the main pathogens responsible for these infections:
- Chlamydia trachomatis – causes chlamydia.
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae – responsible for gonorrhea.
- Mycoplasma genitalium – associated with urethritis and cervicitis.
- Mycoplasma hominis – may be involved in urogenital tract infections.
- Ureaplasma urealyticum – linked to urethritis and other genital infections.
- Ureaplasma parvum – another type of ureaplasma with clinical relevance.
- Trichomonas vaginalis – parasite responsible for trichomoniasis.
Likewise, the ETS Plus Test includes the detection of the human papillomavirus (HPV) through the analysis of a urine sample, with the aim of identifying the presence of DNA corresponding to HPV variants considered high risk for the development of cervical cancer.
The screening test allows for the direct detection of the DNA of these microorganisms, even when symptoms have not yet developed or before the body has generated an immune response.
This test should be performed at least 3 or 4 weeks after having had a risky sexual encounter or when there is suspicion of exposure to an STI.
