BRCA Plus Test (Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer) in Barcelona

People who take the BRCA Plus Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer Test typically do so because they have developed cancer at an early age or have a family history suggesting the possibility of inheriting a genetic mutation in the BRCA1, BRCA2, or any other gene associated with cancer development.

Women who present any of these situations should undergo thorough monitoring of their particular case, as the likelihood of developing cancer is higher. However, it is possible that you may have one of the mentioned situations and never develop breast and/or ovarian cancer.

On the other hand, it is important to know that this test not only helps determine the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. The BRCA Plus test also detects mutations in genes associated with prostate cancer, such as BRCA2.

The BRCA Plus Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer Test is carried out through a blood test. Typically, a small amount of blood is required, which the Megalab team in Barcelona will send to the laboratory for analysis.

Additionally, there is no need to fast or make any special preparations to provide the blood sample. The process followed in the BRCA Plus Familial Breast and Ovarian Cancer Test is as follows:

• Your doctor prescribes the BRCA Plus Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Test.
• You schedule an appointment and go to the Eurofins - Sarro Laboratory, where the geneticists will collect the blood sample.
• The sample is placed in a test tube and sent to the laboratory for analysis.

A medical prescription is required to perform this test.

The Megalab geneticists will then explain how to access your results:

1. You will be given an access code to log into your private area.
2. From there, you can check the status of your results report.
3. If the results are not available, it will show as "pending”.

Lastly, you will be provided with the phone number of the laboratory where you took the test in case you have any questions while waiting for the results.

After 30 days, Megalab will send the results. You will be able to have a consultation with the genetic counselor via phone to discuss the implications of the results for you and your family.
