Dr. José María Fuentes Pérez

Dr José María Fuentes Pérez is a leading specialist in Angiología and Vascular Surgery with over two decades of experience in the healthcare sector. He graduated with a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Central University of Barcelona in 1999, having completed his training at the Ciutat Sanitària Universitària de Bellvitge.

Subsequently, he completed his residency training as a junior doctor (M.I.R.) at the prestigious Hospital General Universitari Vall d’Hebron between 2000 and 2005. During this training period, he also undertook his doctoral studies, achieving postgraduate research proficiency (Suficiencia Investigadora) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and obtained official accreditation from the Non-Invasive Vascular Diagnostics Chapter of the SEACV to perform non-invasive vascular examinations.

At a professional level, Dr Fuentes has consolidated a highly active career, balancing responsibilities in both the public and private sectors. Since completing his residency, he has served as an Emergency Attending Physician in the Angiology, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Department at Hospital Vall d’Hebron, and he coordinates this same specialty at the Hospital de Barcelona.

His experience extends to renowned medical centres in Catalonia, having practiced at Clínica Plató, Hospital Sagrat Cor, and Centro Médico Quirón Aribau. Currently, he also practices at Atlàntida Mèdica, works as a specialist at Clínica Tres Torres, and serves as Head of the Angiology and Vascular Surgery Service at Clínica Nuestra Señora del Remei, in addition to managing his own practice, the Instituto Vascular Drs. Fuentes, which was founded in 2010.

In addition to his clinical practice, he has a strong scientific and research background. He has been directly responsible for major clinical trials —such as the Artyc and Dobesilato500/1 studies— and has shared his knowledge through 15 specialised publications and more than 50 papers presented at national medical congresses, featuring as the lead author in 19 of them.

The doctor is an active member of multiple highly relevant national and international scientific societies, including the European Society of Vascular Surgery.
