The purchase of the service includes the performance of the diagnostic test in the selected city and hospital.

Results in digital format
Once you have taken the test, the centre will specify how long the results will take and will provide them to you in digital format.

-
NOT Included - Medical prescription
In Spain, a medical prescription is required for any diagnostic test. If you do not have one, you will need to see a specialist beforehand to obtain one.
Below, we explain the process step by step, whether you have it or not:
If you have a medical prescription
- Purchase the test as normal.
- Immediately afterwards, we will send you the instructions for you to send us the medical prescription to the e-mail address you used to make the purchase, so that we can manage the appointment.
- With the medical prescription we will be able to check that the diagnostic test purchased corresponds to the one indicated by the specialist.
- We will arrange your appointment with a date and time so that you can go to the hospital of your choice to undergo the test.
You do not have a medical prescription
If you do not have a medical prescription, Operarme will arrange a consultation with one of our specialists at a preferential price (subject to availability in the area). Contact us for more information.
During the consultation you will be able to inform the doctor about the test you need. The doctor may ask you for a report from your neurologist in relation to your medical problem, if the test you need to have requires it.
Remember: on the day of the test you must bring and show the Operarme voucher and the medical prescription.
-
Refund if test is not carried out
If after purchasing the test you decide not to take it or the date of the appointment does not suit your needs, you can request a refund. In these cases, we will refund you the full amount of your purchase without any problem.
To do so, please contact our customer service team before the date of the appointment, and we will manage the refund quickly and easily.

01. All about Brain MRI scanning
If you need to have a Brain MRI scan, through Operarme you can purchase the service only for 199 € and diagnose any possible brain injuries or pathologies you may have, so your doctor can recommend the best treatment for you.
What should you take into account before purchasing this Brain MRI scan?
If you need a brain MRI, first you must have a medical prescription from your doctor or specialist.
In the event that you don’t have one but are interested in having an MRI, you can first purchase and attend a private consultation with one of our specialists and tell the doctor about the symptoms you have; if the doctor considers an MRI is necessary, he/she will hand you a prescription for the test.
Once you’ve purchased the Brain MRI test, you will automatically receive an email with your medical voucher, information regarding the service and the hospital, and also an invoice of the test purchased.
Right after, you have to call the selected hospital/clinic’s contact number (indicated in the voucher), and request an appointment to take the test.
On the day of the appointment, you will need to take the prescription with you. If you attend without a prescription, it’s likely that the hospital staff may refer you to a private consultation first. This consultation is not included in the price of the brain MRI test you purchase on Operarme’s website and it is possible that the cost of the consultation at the hospital is higher than the preferential price published on our website for Operarme patients.
If you need another type of MRI, you can consult our diagnostic tests section and choose the one that best suits your needs (MRI of 2 regions, MRI with contrast or without, spinal MRI, etc).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Service Team on +34 91 141 33 56, or leave a contact form and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
02. What is a Brain MRI?
A brain or head MRI is a non-invasive radiological test that uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the brain.
This test is quite useful to diagnose and perform a follow-up of different neurological conditions and the brain, such as brain tumours, degenerative diseases, sleep disorder, etc…

On the day of the test it is important that you inform the doctor about any implant or prosthesis (pacemaker, a brain stimulation device, etc..) since they may affect the magnetic field. Therefore, you should inform the doctor about any metal part you may have in your body and that might condition the quality of the MRI images.
03. What is a brain MRI used for?
A brain MRI is performed to detect and diagnose different brain conditions and it is specially useful to visualise structures and soft tissues in the brain, such as grey and white matter, blood vessels and nerves.
Some of the medical causes to perform this brain scan are the following:
- Detect neurological disorders such as: strokes, brain tumours, degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer disease, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory diseases in the brain, and epilepsy.
- Evaluate brain injuries or injuries in the spinal cord, such as bruises, contusions, haematomas, etc.
- Evaluate visual disorders such as: optic neuritis or optic glioma, which affect the optical structures of the brain.
- Assessing cerebral circulation and blood flow in the brain, which can be useful to diagnose cerebrovascular disorders, such as aneurysms or arteriovenous malformations.
- Perform a pre-operative assessment before a surgery, which allows a precise surgical planning.
If you’re going through any of these situations, your doctor will have prescribed a brain MRI, as it is an important tool for the detection, diagnosis and treatment of a variety of brain conditions.
04. How is a Brain MRI performed?
A brain magnetic resonance imaging is a safe and non-invasive test that has the main goal of obtaining images of the brain without the need for ionising radiation. Generally, before having an MRI you don’t need to follow any medical indications. However, there are some cases where attending the appointment on an empty stomach will be necessary (if the specialist tells you to do so when handing you the prescription).

These are the steps taken for the performance of a brain MRI on patient:
- Preparation: Before the scan, you will have to remove any metallic object you wear such as jewellery, piercings, a watch, keys, etc. You will also have to inform the technician on any disease or medical condition to be considered before the scanning.
- Position of the patient: You will lie down in a stretcher that slides inside the MRI machine. The technician will ask you to position yourself comfortably and ensure that you are in the correct position to obtain the images needed.
- Capture of the images: the technician will take the images of the brain. During the process, the radiologist will give you instructions and control the process of the scanning from an adjacent room.
- Completion of the scanning: once the technician has obtained the images, you will be removed from the MRI machine and be able to return to your daily activities.
The procedure is completely painless. If you are overwhelmed by confined spaces, it is normal to experience a feeling of claustrophobia during the MRI, but you will have a call button with you so that you can press it if you become very overwhelmed.
05. How long does a Brain MRI scan take?
A magnetic resonance imaging of the brain can last differently depending on the imaging protocol and the area of the brain to be examined. Generally, it can take about 30 minutes and 60 minutes.
Besides, it’s important to stay put throughout the procedure since any move can result in blurring images, and the need to repeat the whole procedure.
06. Brain MRI scan Results
A few days after the MRI scan, you will receive the results. You will generally receive the tests in digital format, as well as a report indicating the most important observations from the test.
