Results in digital format
Once you have taken the test, the centre will specify how long the results will take and will provide them to you in digital format.

-
NOT Included - Medical prescription
In Spain, a medical prescription is required for any diagnostic test. If you do not have one, you will need to see a specialist beforehand to obtain one.
Below, we explain the process step by step, whether you have it or not:
If you have a medical prescription
- Purchase the test as normal.
- Immediately afterwards, we will send you the instructions for you to send us the medical prescription to the e-mail address you used to make the purchase, so that we can manage the appointment.
- With the medical prescription we will be able to check that the diagnostic test purchased corresponds to the one indicated by the specialist.
- We will arrange your appointment with a date and time so that you can go to the hospital of your choice to undergo the test.
You do not have a medical prescription
If you do not have a medical prescription, Operarme will arrange a consultation with one of our specialists at a preferential price (subject to availability in the area). Contact us for more information.
During the consultation you will be able to inform the doctor about the test you need. He/she may ask you for a report in relation to your medical problem, if the test you need to have requires it.
If you do not have a prescription or report associated with the reason for the diagnostic test, it is likely that you will be referred to a face-to-face consultation. If this is your case, contact us for advice on how to proceed.
Remember: on the day of the test you must bring and show the Operarme voucher and the medical prescription.
-
Refund if test is not carried out
If after purchasing the test you decide not to take it or the date of the appointment does not suit your needs, you can request a refund. In these cases, we will refund you the full amount of your purchase without any problem.
To do so, please contact our customer service team before the date of the appointment, and we will manage the refund quickly and easily.

01. All about Abdominal ultrasound imaging
If you need to have an Abdominal Ultrasound, through Operarme you can purchase the service only for 60 € and diagnose any possible injuries or pathologies you may have in the area of the abdomen or the internal organs, so your doctor can recommend the best treatment for you.
What should you take into account before purchasing this type of ultrasound?
If you need an abdominal ultrasound, first you must have a medical prescription from your doctor or specialist.
In the event that you don’t have one but are interested in having an abdominal ultrasound, you can first purchase and attend a private consultation with one of our specialists and tell the doctor about the symptoms you have; if the doctor considers an ultrasound is necessary, he/she will hand you a prescription for the test.
Once you’ve purchased the abdominal ultrasound, you will automatically receive an email with your medical voucher, information regarding the service and the hospital, and also an invoice of the test purchased.
Right after, you have to call the selected hospital/clinic’s contact number (indicated in the voucher), and request an appointment to take the test.
On the day of the appointment, you will need to take the prescription with you. If you attend without a prescription, it’s likely that the hospital staff may refer you to a private consultation first. This consultation is not included in the price of the abdominal ultrasound you purchase on Operarme’s website and it is possible that the cost of the consultation at the hospital is higher than the preferential price published on our website for Operarme patients.
If you need another type of test, you can consult our diagnostic tests section and choose the one that best suits your needs (brain MRI, X-rays for hip, knee and foot, MRI of 2 regions, MRI with contrast, etc).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Service Team through this contact form and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
02. What is an Abdominal Ultrasound?
An abdominal ultrasound is a diagnostic technique that uses high frequency sound waves to create images in real time of the abdomen, and the internal organs. It is also known as Abdominal ultrasonography.

The abdominal ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless and safe test that does not use ionising radiation.
An abdominal ultrasound can provide detailed information about organs and structures of the abdomen, such as the liver, the gallbladder, the kidneys, the pancreas, the spleen and the blood vessels of the abdomen.
This technique is used to diagnose and assess a great variety of medical conditions and diseases, such as tumours, cysts, inflammation, obstruction, gallstones, structural abnormalities and diseases of the liver.
03. Which type of diseases can an abdominal ultrasound detect?
An abdominal ultrasound is mainly used to visualise with precision medical conditions or diseases in multiple organs and the abdomen. Some of these pathologies are the following:
- Liver: Ultrasound can assess the size, shape and structure of the liver, as well as detect liver diseases such as cirrhosis, steatosis (accumulation of fat in the liver) and tumours.
- Gallbladder: Gallstones, inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis) and other gallbladder disorders can be identified.
- Kidneys: Abdominal ultrasound can show the size, shape and position of the kidneys, as well as detect kidney stones, cysts, tumours and kidney disease.
- Pancreas: Tumours, inflammation (pancreatitis), cysts and other abnormalities of the pancreas can be identified.
- Spleen: Ultrasound can assess the size and structure of the spleen, and detect diseases such as splenomegaly (enlargement of the spleen) and tumours.
- Abdominal blood vessels: The major blood vessels of the abdomen, such as the aorta and major arteries and veins, can be visualised and evaluated for aneurysms, narrowing (stenosis) or other abnormalities.
Moreover, the abdominal ultrasound can also help identify masses, inflammation, abnormal liquid, obstructions and structural abnormalities on the abdomen.
It is important to take into account that abdominal ultrasound is a complementary diagnostic tool and that, in some cases, it may be necessary other diagnostic methods such as blood tests, MRI, or computerised tomography, to obtain a complete and precise assessment of the medical problem.
In any case, it is important to follow the specialists’ instructions and the prescriptions for the tests he/she may see necessary to perform.
04. How is an abdominal ultrasound performed?
These are the steps of the performance of an ultrasound in the abdominal area:
- Before the procedure, you may be asked to change into a gown and lie on your back on a table.
- The doctor will apply a conducting gel to your abdominal area to obtain quality images.
- The transducer (a hand-held device) will then be placed over the gel in your abdominal area and moved by applying gentle pressure to different areas to obtain images of the specific organs and structures being evaluated.
- The sound waves are converted into real-time images on a monitor, so during the ultrasound you will be able to view the images with your doctor and discuss the test findings.
- Once the scan is complete, you can resume your normal activities immediately.
05. How long does an abdominal ultrasound take?
An abdominal ultrasound can take between 7-10 minutes, depending on the abdominal structures and organs to examine.
It is important to note that the procedure may vary depending on the purpose of the test and the physician's instructions. In some cases, additional preparations, such as fasting or fluid intake, may be required as directed by the physician.
06. Abdominal Ultrasound Results
A few days after the ultrasound, you will receive the results. You will generally receive the tests in digital format, as well as a report indicating the most important observations from the test.

Frequent Questions
-
Are the ultrasound waves from an ultrasound scan dangerous?
No, the waves used in an ultrasound scan are not considered hazardous to health. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves, also known as ultrasound.
Ultrasound does not produce ionising radiation, like x-rays, so there is no risk of radiation exposure during an ultrasound. In addition, the ultrasound waves used in ultrasound have a very low intensity and are focused on a specific area of the body, which further reduces any possible harmful effects.
Ultrasound has been widely used for decades and has not been shown to have significant adverse health effects on either the patients or the health professionals performing the test. It is a safe and non-invasive technique that is routinely used in medical diagnosis, especially during pregnancy for obstetric ultrasound.
However, it is important to note that, as with any medical procedure, ultrasound should be used appropriately and justified by a physician or health professional. Clinical guidelines and recommendations should be followed to ensure safe and effective use of this diagnostic technique.
