02. What are dental veneers?
Veneers are the secret of many perfect dentures. In addition, they not only improve our smile aesthetically, they come in different types and fulfil different functions.
In terms of their aesthetic properties, they are made of a highly aesthetic material that covers the front face of the tooth in order to adopt the desired shape, position and colour by wearing down between 0.5 and 0.8 mm.
Unlike other aesthetic dental procedures, this treatment involves very little direct intervention on the teeth and is characterised by the attachment of the veneers to the teeth.
These veneers are attached to the visible part, i.e. the outside of the teeth, with a special resin. It is therefore an aesthetic treatment, so if there are other oral problems, this option should be discarded as it would not solve the problem, it would mask it.
03. What types of dental veneers are there?
With regard to the variety of veneers that exist on the market, there are two of them that are well differentiated. Each of them will depend on the material with which they are used. Therefore, we highlight two types: composite veneers and ceramic veneers.
- Composite veneers. This type of dental veneer is made directly on the tooth enamel with a special resin to give the desired shape to the tooth. Composite veneers use a material similar to that used in the placement of fillings. They are the cheapest and easiest dental veneers to fit as they can be done in just one appointment. Therefore, they do not require a large investment in time and money, although they do require more polishing than ceramic veneers. However, below we detail the strengths of this type of dental veneer.
- Highly aesthetic veneers are manufactured in a laboratory before they are placed on the patient. This type of veneer is cared for from the manufacturing process until the patient is fitted, which means that they last for a long time and regular check-ups for maintenance and polishing are not necessary.
Once differentiated, it should be added that Operarme offers both treatments. Furthermore, our team of experts in the field does not rule out or choose one or the other on the basis of their characteristics. Although highly aesthetic veneers last longer than composite veneers, this does not mean that they are the ideal option for the patient.
Therefore, depending on each case and taking into account the needs and circumstances of the patient, one option or another may be more appropriate. Therefore, our advice from Operarme is to let yourself be advised by the professionals and specialists we work with.
Next, we will detail what highly aesthetic veneers are used for.
04. What do highly aesthetic veneers correct?
Highly aesthetic cosmetic veneers are long lasting and cover the outside of the tooth to give a better physical appearance to the dentition. High aesthetic veneers are the ideal choice for many situations where the tooth is affected by various irregularities, thus involving various changes and corrections, such as:
- Changing the shape and correcting fractures in teeth.
- Closing interdental spaces such as diastemas.
- Eliminating yellowing and solving other enamel problems in the teeth such as permanent stains or black spaces in the gums.
- Correct the position of the teeth and provide a beautification of the patient's smile.

With ceramic veneers, the tooth becomes 0.5 and 0.8 mm thick. The placement of these veneers involves preparing the tooth by grinding the tooth.
The surface of the teeth is reduced to compensate for the thickness of the veneers, so that the veneers can be fitted and the correct tooth size is achieved.
05. Differences between highly aesthetic dental veneers and composite veneers
Dental veneers allow you to change the colour, shape and position of your teeth. They are bonded to the enamel with a special cement or resin. It is an aesthetic treatment that aims to improve our smile, beautify the teeth and, in some cases, protect them from acids and other aggressions. Among the corrections it involves, we highlight the correction of the shape of the teeth, modifying their size or covering broken teeth.
There are various types of veneers, some more conventional and economical and others made in a laboratory. We will now detail some of the differences between composite and highly aesthetic dental veneers:
Composite veneers are done at the same time as the appointment with the dentist, so the patient invests very little time, although this depends on how much has to be done.
The most noticeable differences with highly aesthetic veneers are as follows:
- Although the aesthetic result does not make a big difference compared to ceramic veneers, composite veneers have a completely natural appearance, although the translucency, polish and shine is inferior to a high aesthetic veneer.
- The placement of composite veneers, in some cases, may not involve the injection of anaesthesia. In contrast, with high aesthetic veneers, anaesthesia is required. Thus, once the effects of the anaesthetic wear off, any pain or discomfort disappears.
- Composite veneers are placed directly on the tooth by bonding layers of composite material. Therefore, the enamel of the tooth is not altered.
- Thus, veneers are quicker to perform and therefore more economical.
- It is a treatment that can be modified over time, and can be removed to place highly aesthetic ones or retouch those that were previously in place.
On the other hand:
- Although composite veneers have a long life span of 3 to 5 years, they are clearly less durable than highly aesthetic veneers, which boast a higher durability.
- With the passage of time, the initial colour and brightness can be lost.
- For this reason, composite veneers require more visits to the clinic to maintain their good appearance for a longer period of time.
- Due to the advantages of ceramic veneers, from their careful manufacturing process to their durability, this type of treatment is more expensive than composite veneers.
- Regarding the placement of the veneers, it is necessary to manipulate the tooth, albeit minimally, in order to place the veneer on it. Therefore, local anaesthesia may be applied due to the discomfort that the process may cause. However, once the anaesthesia is removed from the body, there will be no pain or discomfort.
- Therefore, as a result of moulding the tooth enamel, it may be an irreversible treatment, but for the patient's peace of mind, this treatment has successful results.
As we said before, both types of dental veneers are suitable to cover the needs required by the patient.
Therefore, the specialist will take each case into account and will recommend the application of one or the other. But first of all, the most important thing is to go for an assessment consultation with an odontologist specialised in dental aesthetics so that he or she can review your case and indicate the best option for you.
At Operarme, along with Caser Dental Clinics, we offer you a free assessment consultation that includes an orthopantomography to check your oral health.
06. Booking of a free assessment consultation
It is important that the dentist reviews your case and indicates the best option, as not everyone can opt for a high aesthetic veneer if they have an associated oral problem. For this reason, the best thing to do is to request one of our free assessment consultations.
You can do this without any problems by calling at +34 91 141 33 56, indicating it to us through the contact form or requesting it directly by clicking on the image below.

If the date is not suitable for you, don't worry, our patient care team will contact you to confirm the date of the appointment, or if you prefer, you can contact them through any of the channels provided on the website for this purpose.

07. Assessment consultation with the specialist in dental aesthetics
On the day of the consultation, after identifying yourself as a patient of Operarme, you will undergo a check-up and it will be explained to you whether the treatment of highly aesthetic dental veneers is viable, the advantages and disadvantages it may have and the best option will be recommended to you. In the event that you, together with the dentist specialising in aesthetic dentistry, decide to have dental veneers fitted, you can directly arrange a date for the fitting of the veneers.
Our patient service team will call you the next day to help you and make all the necessary arrangements for payment and to continue with the process.
If everything is correct and the process continues, a series of tests will be carried out before the highly aesthetic dental veneers are fitted. These are listed below.
08. Pre-treatment tests for highly aesthetic dental veneers at Clinica Dental Caser
In the treatment with highly aesthetic veneers, it is necessary to carry out a series of tests that take into account the parameters that are investigated in prosthetic treatments, such as the placement of ceramic veneers.
Thus, in order to carry out the diagnosis, a series of tests must be performed, such as:
- Complete intraoral and extraoral examination for a complete evaluation.
- Radiographic evaluation with orthopantomography.
- Periapical radiographs of each of the teeth to be covered with dental veneers, if the dentist considers it necessary.
- Static and dynamic occlusion analysis.
09. What does the treatment of highly aesthetic dental veneers consist of?
In contrast to composite veneers, which are usually fabricated in the dental practice itself, highly aesthetic veneers are fabricated in the laboratory. Highly aesthetic veneers are therefore processed in the following steps before the veneers are fitted:
Before the definitive veneers are made, the tests and records of the aesthetic analysis of the patient are indispensable, which will consist of a personalised study of each case:
- Photographing the teeth to analyse the patient's facial features and dental case. This allows us to see the before and after of the smile and thus evaluate the result.
- A provisional plaster mould of the tooth structure is made and then modelled with wax over the mould to correct the shape and size of the tooth.
- A mould of each veneer is made with silicone so that the patient can try them on and assess how they look.
- The front of the tooth is lightly milled and the moulds are made and sent to the laboratory.
- While the laboratory is fabricating the veneers, fixed temporary veneers are attached.
- Once the temporary veneers have been removed and the patient has given their approval of their new look, the highly aesthetic veneers are cemented one by one.
Once the laboratory sends the final veneers, they are placed. This process has several steps:
- In this second visit, the specialist removes the provisional veneers and places the definitive ones. In this way, both the patient and the Doctor will be able to check the placement of the veneers in the mouth. Thus, the interdental space is taken into account to ensure good dental hygiene, the colour of the enamel, the size, shape and position of the teeth, as well as checking the correct occlusion of the mouth.
- Normally, they are first bonded with a temporary material to check that everything is correct, and then proceed to the final cementing.
- Before the veneers are placed, the tooth is prepared so that all the veneers adhere, one by one, to the enamel.
- This preparation is done by etching the surface of the tooth with acid for a few seconds and then rinsing it with water.
- Subsequently, the veneers are prepared and placed on the prepared teeth and light cured to finalise their bonding.
- After the placement process is completed, the teeth are cleaned and any residue that may have remained in the mouth after the treatment is removed.
10. Anaesthesia in the fitting of high aesthetic veneers
For the placement of high aesthetic veneers, visits are required prior to the placement in order to carry out all the necessary tests and send them to the laboratory. Once the laboratory sends the final veneers, the specialist will proceed to install them on the patient. Thus, in this process, local anaesthesia may be applied.
This is done in order to eliminate any discomfort or pain that the patient may experience during the process. However, once the anaesthetic wears off, the patient will not feel any pain or discomfort.
In addition, with this type of veneers, it is not necessary to visit the specialist for polishing and maintenance as with composite veneers, but it is necessary to attend biannual or annual check-ups.
11. Duration of dental veneers
Highly aesthetic veneers are very thin, approximately 0.3 to 0.8 mm, and solve various problems such as staining, fractures or misalignment of the teeth.
Thus, in just two sessions a smile can be modified with the use of highly aesthetic veneers, which, unlike other treatments, involves a small direct action on the teeth, making it a minimally invasive and painless technique.
The highly aesthetic veneers are bonded to the teeth with a special adhesive cement that is long-lasting.
12. Advantages and risks of dental veneer placement
In relation to the last mentioned, veneers involve a cementation that can last for many years, since when a patient undergoes veneers, he or she is looking for something permanent. Therefore, it is worth weighing up the pros and cons of highly aesthetic veneers.
Some of the advantages include the following:
- The material used to make the veneers simulates enamel and they are custom-made so they are imperceptible.
- The shape of the teeth, their colour, as well as their position can be modified.
- Highly aesthetic veneers are not affected by tobacco, coffee, tea or wine stains.
- There is a wide range of shades in veneers. But you should always be advised by the professional, as people tend to choose the whitest ones which give less natural results.
- Veneers can be a good alternative to crowns as they involve a more conservative modification of the shape of the tooth by grinding it.
- Even over time, veneers maintain their original colour, brightness and appearance.
The disadvantages of aesthetic veneers, on the other hand, are as follows:
- The design of the veneers, as well as their elaboration in the laboratory and their fitting to the patient, is a process that requires time and dedication, and can therefore be a somewhat more costly treatment.
- It is a very minimally invasive and painless treatment but, by grinding the tooth enamel, it can increase tooth sensitivity, even if only minimally.
- Since a highly aesthetic veneer involves cementation, it can be difficult to remove or repair. Therefore, it should be noted that once the teeth are prepared, the process is not reversible.
- Highly aesthetic veneers are not suitable for patients with bruxism, i.e. with mounted teeth. In this case, you should not make the decision until you have consulted an orthodontist.
13. Cost of a dental veneer
