  • Varicocele surgery is a simple operation that lasts between 20 and 60 minutes.
  • The hospital stay is minimal, and you can leave the centre a few hours after the operation.
  • The postoperative period following varicocele surgery is comfortable and quick. The patient recovers completely 7 days later.

One of the main concerns of patients about varicocele surgery, apart from the resolution of symptoms and, in cases where there is infertility, is the postoperative time.

The duration of the varicocelectomy operation is between 20 and 60 minutes approximately, depending on the characteristics of the patient and the specific case.

After the operation, performed under regional or general anaesthesia, the patient is taken to the resuscitation room where he will remain until his vital signs are stabilised.

After the surgery, around 4 to 5 hours later, the patient can leave the hospital under analgesic treatment to relieve the pain. In some cases, for convenience, it is decided that the patient will stay overnight in the hospital to monitor his progress. While still in the hospital, the days for the check-up and the day for the spermiogram will be established, if the treatment is to solve infertility problems.

Once at home, the patient should avoid excessive physical exertion for the next 2 weeks.

The patient can return to work on the third or fourth day after the varicocele operation, as long as it is an office job. In cases where the work requires physical exertion, it is recommended to wait two weeks or until the doctor says it is safe to return to work.

A few days after the surgery, the patient goes to the hospital for the first check-up where the stitches from the surgical incision are removed.

If the varicocele operation was performed to treat an infertility problem, a spermiogram is performed after 3 or 4 months to detect improvements in semen quality.

The postoperative period ends two weeks later and significant improvements in symptoms are noted. To learn more about the varicocele surgery visit this link:
