- The operation to remove cataracts is one of the most common and safest surgical procedures in Ophthalmology, with a success rate of almost 100%.
- The price of cataract surgery varies depending on the type of lens to be implanted in the patient.
- Regardless of the intraocular lens chosen, this procedure lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes, and the patient can return home on the same day as the surgery.
Cataract surgery is a quick and safe procedure aimed at removing the opacity of the crystalline lens (known as the “natural lens” of our eyes), which results in blurred vision, occasional glare and, gradually, a reduction in visual acuity.
The most common technique for correcting a cataract is known as “phacoemulsification”. It is a minimally invasive method that involves making a small incision in the cornea of the eye to remove the liquefied lens material and implant an intraocular lens in its place.
In order to make the process as simple and comfortable as possible for the patient, Operarme includes in the fixed price of cataract surgery all the elements and services necessary to ensure the success of the operation.
Continue reading this article to discover more about the factors that make up the fixed price we offer at Operarme for this surgery, including a free surgical assessment consultation with the cataract specialist.
Why is cataract surgery performed?
Cataracts are an ocular impairment in which the patient progressively loses clarity of vision, causing blurred and distorted sight.
This surgical intervention is the only definitive treatment that corrects the visual defect and restores “visual clarity” to patients.

Surgical treatment to remove cataracts is recommended for patients who begin to encounter limitations in their daily activities such as:
- Reading
- Driving
- Sewing
- Recognising faces or objects at a short/medium distance
- Watching television or focusing on a screen (computer, mobile phone, tablet…)
Depending on the patient’s vision problems at short, medium or long range, it will be necessary to implant a monofocal, multifocal or trifocal lens.
Below, we explain the differences between the available intraocular lenses in Operarme.
Types of intraocular lenses for cataract correction
Intraocular lenses act as a synthetic artificial crystalline lens that replaces the natural lens removed during cataract surgery.
Depending on the patient’s focusing ability, the ophthalmologist will recommend the implantation of a monofocal or multifocal lens:
- Monofocal intraocular lens: this lens focuses at a single distance (mainly to improve vision at long range, of at least 1 metre). This lens provides sharp distance vision and reduced glare. It should be noted that, despite improving long-range vision, the patient will need to use spectacles for near vision or reading.
- Multifocal intraocular lens: this lens makes it possible to see at different distances thanks to concentric rings on its surface, which allow focusing at long and short range. There are two types of multifocal lenses:
- Bifocal lens: this lens allows clear focus and vision at near and far distances.
- Trifocal lens: this is the most comprehensive lens as it allows focusing at three distances: near, intermediate and far. The trifocal lens improves optical vision across the entire range and without spectacles.
