What is included?
-
Cycle controls
- During the ovarian stimulation process, periodic ultrasound and blood tests are performed to monitor the growth of the follicles and adjust the dose of medication as needed.
- Once the follicles have reached the appropriate size, the eggs are scheduled to be retrieved through a procedure called follicular puncture, which is usually performed under sedation.
-
Sperm selection
Selection of the optimal sperm sample for fertilisation. Those with the highest motility will be selected and processed to improve their quality and fertilising capacity.
-
Technology
Our assisted reproduction centres have all the technological advances in assisted reproduction and are pioneers in the application of numerous techniques at a local and national level.
In addition, all laboratory procedures are always carried out under the strictest safety and quality controls to ensure that no error or complication occurs that could affect fertilisation.
-
Confirmation of pregnancy
- Two weeks after the intrauterine insemination, you will be called back to the clinic for a blood test to confirm your pregnancy.
- If the result is positive, 7-10 days later you will undergo an ultrasound scan to confirm the embryo sac and, if all goes well, from this point onwards you can continue to follow the pregnancy with your regular gynaecologist.
-
Ovarian Stimulation Medication (Not included)
- Medication for ovarian stimulation can vary according to the needs and characteristics of each woman and will be determined under the supervision of a specialist. Therefore, one of the assisted reproduction specialists will establish the most appropriate protocol and amount based on your individual needs.
- Since no single protocol and amount of medication for ovarian stimulation can be determined, this element is not included in the price of artificial insemination.
-
Complementary techniques (not included)
In order to increase the success rate of Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), it is possible to resort to a series of complementary techniques. If required, they are not included:
- MACS: allows the immunogenetic selection of healthy and optimal spermatozoa for egg fertilisation.
- GCT (Genetic Compatibility Test): allows the existence of mutations in both members of the couple to be determined in order to minimise the risk of transmitting genetic diseases to the children.

What are the stages of intrauterine insemination?

Intrauterine Insemination is a treatment that lasts between 8 - 10 days and consists of 5 stages, which we explain below:
Stage 1. Medical evaluation
In this first stage, the Team of Ginefiv Getafe will get to know and analyse your particular situation and review the medical tests related to infertility. Normally it will be necessary to check the ovarian reserve and detect possible pathologies in the couple, in order to determine whether IUI is the most appropriate assisted reproduction treatment for you.
If you do not have the necessary diagnostic tests, Operarme offers you a complete fertility study: this service is perfect to start any assisted reproduction treatment. It includes all the necessary tests to determine the viability of Artificial Conjugal Insemination:
- First consultation
- Consultation of results
- Anti-Müllerian Hormone Test
- Ultrasound scan
- Gynaecological examination
- Sperm survival test
- 40% discount on non-genetic diagnostic tests Included*.

Stage 2. Ovarian stimulation
The aim of this stage is to achieve a certain number of follicles capable of successful ovulation, using hormones similar to those that regulate the menstrual cycle.
For 8 - 10 days you will visit the centre on a regular basis for the team to monitor the development of your follicles. The monitoring will be carried out with an ultrasound scanner and occasionally with blood measurements of the hormone oestradiol.
Thus, during this process, the team will have obtained the information that allows them to determine the ideal time to trigger ovulation.
Phase 3. Selection and capacitation of the semen sample (spermatozoa)
For you to understand what this stage consists of, the capacitation of the spermatozoa is a set of physiological changes that a spermatozoa undergoes naturally in order to fertilise an egg. When ejaculated, sperm do not have this capacity, but acquire it in the female reproductive system.
Therefore, in order to carry out the intrauterine insemination successfully, it is necessary that the sperm sample is previously capacitated in the laboratory to optimise its fertilising capacity.
Therefore, on the day of the artificial insemination, the man of the couple, who has not ejaculated for 3 to 5 days, will fill a sperm sample bottle and go to the clinic's laboratory to hand it in and have it prepared.
In the the Clínica Ginefiv Getafe laboratory, the technicians will separate the most motile spermatozoa and stimulate their fertilising capacity.
Stage 4. Insemination
On the same day as the sperm capacitation, you will go to one of the rooms prepared to carry out the IUI.
Once there, you will be instructed on how to place and deposit the sperm that were selected in the previous phase into the uterine cavity with a fine cannula. This procedure is performed under ultrasound control and lasts only a few minutes.
Intrauterine insemination is a painless and simple procedure.
Once this stage is over, you will normally rest for 15 - 30 minutes and you can leave the assisted reproduction centre on your own.
Stage 5. Confirmation of pregnancy
After about 15 days, you will be called to the centre for a blood test to find out if the pregnancy has occurred.
If, on the contrary, the result is negative, do not despair. It is possible to perform the procedure up to 4 times in an attempt to obtain positive results. However, the centre's specialists will guide you at all times as to what is the best decision to make, as in some cases, opting for another assisted reproduction technique is the most advisable.

-
When will I know if the insemination has worked?
Two weeks after the insemination, you will go for a blood test to check whether the treatment has been completed.
-
Do I have to follow any post-insemination treatment?
Only if your doctor tells you to do so, you will be prescribed for a treatment during the waiting stage, and until the pregnancy test. The aim of this treatment is to favour the implantation of the embryo.
