Information of Endovenous Laser Varicose Veins (both legs) in Lucena

  • All you need to know about Endovenous Laser Varicose Vein Surgery in Lucena

Endovenous laser varicose vein surgery in Lucena is performed at the Hospital Centro de Andalucia | Amaveca by the Specialist in Vascular Surgery, one of our best specialists in Angiology and Vascular Surgery.

Varicose vein surgery with endovenous laser substantially improves the process of conventional saphenectomy, since it solves the problems of varicose veins without the need to remove the affected vein, leading to substantial improvements in the postoperative period, making it an outpatient surgery and being able to return home walking the same day.

Varicose vein surgery with an endovenous laser aims to eliminate the symptoms caused by dilated veins and circulatory problems.

Below you will find all the information you need about varicose vein surgery with endovenous laser on both legs.

  • Varicose Vein Surgery with Endovenous Laser consists of the introduction of a small laser fibre into the affected vein in order to, thanks to the properties of the laser, close it without the need to remove it, with hardly any damage to the tissue.

Furthermore, it lasts about an hour, depending on whether it is performed on one leg only or on both, as well as on the severity of the problem.

In order for you to know the main reasons why varicose vein surgery with endovenous laser is chosen, we list them all below:

    Reasons for varicose vein surgery

    • Aesthetic: If spider veins are annoying and many people decide to remove them for aesthetic reasons, in the case of large varicose veins, it is also common. In spite of this, the discomfort associated with pain and swelling is a key factor in the decision to remove them, due to the loss of quality of life.
    • Symptoms: Pain in the area at the slightest touch, night cramps that prevent sleep, tingling when standing still, swelling in feet and ankles, etc.
    • Avoid complications: Such as deep vein thrombophlebitis, which consists of the formation of thrombi in the blood, varicorragia, which involves bleeding from the vein after a small injury, or venous ulcers, which can lead to infection in the area.

All of these are more than enough reasons to decide to have varicose vein surgery, whichever surgical method you choose, although the advantages of endovenous laser surgery may make you decide to go for it, although both solve the problem.

Advantages of laser varicose vein surgery

The main advantages of having laser surgery for varicose veins, as with conventional surgery, is to solve the problems associated with varicose veins. In addition to this, there are other benefits of laser surgery, which are listed below:

    • Possibility of operating on both legs in a single session: unlike in the case of conventional saphenectomy surgery, in the case of endovenous laser intervention, it is possible to solve the problem in both legs.
    • Ambulatory surgery: as it is performed under local anaesthesia and is minimally invasive, you can walk home shortly after surgery on your own.
    • Quick return to work: you can return to work and your daily activities 24 to 48 hours after surgery without any problems.
    • Short postoperative period: in addition to an early return to work, the results are immediate and full recovery is achieved within a week.
    • Less discomfort and pain: as the vein is not completely removed, the postoperative period is less uncomfortable and involves less pain.

In addition to all these advantages inherent to laser varicose vein surgery itself, there are a series of advantages to having the procedure performed with us at Operarme.

  • First of all, the first thing to do is to request a surgical assessment consultation with the the Vascular Team of Hospital Centro de Andalucia in Lucena through our website.

You can do this by calling at +34 91 141 33 56, through our contact form or directly by clicking on request appointment in the image below:

    Make an appointment

Once requested, our patient service team will contact you to welcome you, answer any additional questions you may have and confirm that the date and time of your appointment meets your needs. Of course, you can contact us before you make your appointment to answer any questions you may have.

After requesting an appointment, you will receive all the information regarding the consultation, such as date, time, address, etc., by email. If you are unable to attend or have any problems, please contact the patient service team, they will help you throughout the process and manage any setbacks.

After this, the only thing left to do is to go to the specialist's surgery.

  • On the day of the appointment, you must go to the address shown on the voucher along with any medical tests (arterial doppler ultrasound) you may have so that the specialist can assess it in consultation.

In the case of varicose veins, the specialist will need to check an Eco-Doppler of your legs in the consultation room. This test makes it possible to determine the exact points where the problem is located and to know how to carry out the necessary surgery.

As aforementioned, this is an essential test to determine the surgical indication, as well as to plan the surgery itself.

If you have any questions about this diagnostic test, you can contact our patient service department here.

In addition to the above, during the consultation the vascular specialist will explain what the surgery will consist of and answer any questions you may have, as well as carry out a physical examination and review the reports you provide at the consultation.

After the consultation, our patient service team will contact you and, if you decide to go ahead with the procedure, all the paperwork for the intervention will be initiated.

Normally, the time between the consultation and the surgery is between 7 and 10 days approximately, depending on the availability of the operating theatre.

In the case of laser surgery for varicose veins, as it is ambulatory and minimally invasive, it is not necessary to carry out a preoperative, so all that remains is, after completing the procedures with the Operarme team, to go to the the Hospital Centro de Andalucia | Amaveca in Lucena to solve your varicose veins with endovenous laser surgery.

  • On the day of your surgery, you will go to the Hospital Centro de Andalucia | Amaveca with the necessary documentation, don't worry, your personal patient service advisor will have told you about it beforehand, and you will have to hand it in at the admissions desk.

After identifying yourself and handing in the documentation, you will be accompanied to a room where you will wait briefly before being called to enter a pre-surgical room where you will be given your operating theatre clothes.

Once in the operating theatre, you will meet the specialist with whom you had your consultation and a member of the nursing team who will assist the surgeon during the procedure.

Step-by-step laser surgery for varicose veins

Once in the operating theatre, the surgeon will instruct you to get on the stretcher. Once you are in position and everything is ready to begin the treatment, the laser varicose vein surgery will begin, first on one leg and, once all the steps have been completed, then on the other.

The steps to follow are as follows:

    • At first, the doctor will administer local anaesthesia to the leg with a series of punctures in the area. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, the surgical procedure will begin.
    • After checking that the anaesthesia is working, the specialist will make a small incision in the upper part of the leg, near the groyne, to gain access to the affected vein. This incision is minimal, only a few millimetres, just large enough to insert a fine laser fibre that will allow the surgeon to solve the problem.
    • Through this incision, the laser fibre is inserted through the vein until it reaches the area of the vein that has widened to form the varicose vein.
    • Once in the area to be treated, the surgeon will activate the laser so that the heat given off by the laser will cause the vein to fold and contract, closing it completely and disappearing little by little over time. Once the vein is closed, don't worry, the body will send the blood back to the heart via the other healthy veins in the area, thus eliminating the build-up in the varicose vein and, consequently, the symptoms.
    • It is important to highlight the ability of this laser to work backwards, i.e. the doctor inserts the fibre all the way in and "burns" the vein backwards, allowing greater precision and preventing the fibre from getting stuck in the vein.
    • When the varicose vein surgery specialist has solved the problem, the fibre will be removed through the upper incision made and, if necessary, a stitch will be placed in the incision, although this is not usual.
    • If the procedure is performed on both legs, after the surgery has been performed on one leg, it will be performed on the other.

Endovenous laser varicose vein surgery stands out as a simple, outpatient procedure.

As far as the length of the surgery is concerned, this varies depending on whether it is performed on one or two legs or on the severity of the problem. It usually ranges from approximately 60 to 90 minutes, but can vary slightly.

  • After the surgery, you can walk home, in fact, it is important that you walk for at least 30 minutes to reactivate your circulation. You may spend some time in hospital before you leave, but you will not stay long, as the surgery is performed under local anaesthesia and discomfort is minimal.

Before you leave the hospital, you will probably be given a day to come in for a check-up.

Once at home, you can return to work after one or two days without any problem, and you will be fully recovered within a week.

It is recommended that you take several 20-30 minute walks in the following weeks and wear compression stockings.

Full recovery is complete within 1 week, however, it is possible to return to daily activities 24/48 hours after surgery.
