With the purchase of the service, the diagnostic test is included in the selected city and hospital.

Digital results format
Once the test has been completed, the centre will inform you how long the results will take and will provide them in digital format.
Each centre has its own way of delivering the results:some will send them by email, while others will do so through their own applications or online platforms. In any case, the centre’s team will inform you how to access them at the end of the test.

NOT Included - Medical Prescription
In Spain, a medical prescription is required to undergo any diagnostic test. If you do not have one, you will need to attend a consultation with a specialist beforehand in order to obtain it.
Below, we explain the process step by step, both if you have a prescription and if you do not:
You have a medical prescription
- Purchase the test as usual.
- Immediately afterwards, we will send you an email to the address used for the purchase with instructions on how to send us the medical prescription so that we can arrange the appointment.
- With the medical prescription, we will be able to verify that the diagnostic test purchased corresponds to the one indicated by the specialist.
- We will arrange your appointment with a date and time so that you can attend the hospital of your choice to undergo the test.
You do not have a medical prescription
If you do not have a medical prescription, Operarme will arrange a consultation with one of our specialists at a preferential price(subject to availability in the area). Contact us for more information.
During the consultation, you will be able to inform the doctor about the test you need. They may ask you for a medical report related to your condition, if required for the test you need to undergo.
Remember: on the day of the test, you must bring and present your Operarme purchase voucher and the medical prescription.

Refund of the amount if the test is not performed
If, after purchasing the test, you decide not to undergo it or the appointment date does not suit your needs, you may request a refund. In these cases, we will refund the full amount of your purchase without any issue.

01. What are somatosensory evoked potentials?
Somatosensory evoked potentials, or sensory evoked potentials, is a neurophysiological test that measures the speed and response time of an electrical stimulus in the muscle nerves of the arms or legs, to detect potential tumours, lesions, or even signs of multiple sclerosis.
Mainly, it measures the response time of small electrical stimuli between a limb (arm or leg) and the brain.
If it is detected that the message is delayed or arrives with little strength, it is determined that there is a neurophysiological problem at the neuromuscular junction.
This test studies the brain's reception of electrical stimuli (via electrodes on the skin) and the reaction time.
02. Which patients is the somatosensory evoked potential test recommended for?
Generally, patients who undergo this specific test are individuals showing signs of a possible alteration in the neuromuscular function of the arms and/or legs.
These signs can be common in cases of spinal cord injuries, numbness or weakness in a limb (neuropathy), in patients with multiple sclerosis, or nerve conditions or damage (plexopathies).
03. How is a somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP test) performed?
On the day of the scheduled appointment, the patient attends the medical centre with their voucher and their medical prescription to undergo the test.
This diagnostic test is performed by a neurophysiology specialist and does not require any prior preparation:
- Once the patient is positioned on the stretcher, the specialist places electrodes with conductive paste on different parts of the scalp, neck, or back.
- Next, stimulating electrodes are placed on the patient's wrist or ankle.
- Once the patient is prepared, the specialist begins to apply small electrical shocks to check the neuromuscular response in the fingers or the foot.
- It is an assessment that is not painless, as the electrical impulses applied may be uncomfortable, although they typically cause a tingling or prickling sensation.
- When applying the electrical shocks, they may cause involuntary movements in the fingers or foot, but these are a good sign of response to the test.
- During the test, the equipment records the electrical activity of the stimuli and how the electrical impulse travels from the stimulation point in the hand or foot to the brain, primarily evaluating the response time.
- Once the necessary data has been collected, the specialist removes all the electrodes placed on the patient, and the test is concluded.
After the test, the patient can carry out their daily activities as normal. The duration of the evoked potential test is usually 30 to 60 minutes.
As previously mentioned, this test does not require prior preparation. Even so, it is important to bear in mind the following instructions when attending the hospital on the day of the appointment to perform the test:
- Avoid applying moisturising creams or body oils on the day of the test.
- Attend the test with hair washed and dried, without applying products such as hairsprays or gels.
