With the purchase of the service, the diagnostic test is included in the selected city and hospital.

Digital results format
Once the test has been completed, the centre will inform you how long the results will take and will provide them in digital format.
Each centre has its own way of delivering the results:some will send them by email, while others will do so through their own applications or online platforms. In any case, the centre’s team will inform you how to access them at the end of the test.

In Spain, a medical prescription is required to undergo any diagnostic test. If you do not have one, you will need to attend a consultation with a specialist beforehand in order to obtain it.
Below, we explain the process step by step, both if you have a prescription and if you do not:
You have a medical prescription
- Purchase the test as usual.
- Immediately afterwards, we will send you an email to the address used for the purchase with instructions on how to send us the medical prescription so that we can arrange the appointment.
- With the medical prescription, we will be able to verify that the diagnostic test purchased corresponds to the one indicated by the specialist.
- We will arrange your appointment with a date and time so that you can attend the hospital of your choice to undergo the test.
You do not have a medical prescription
If you do not have a medical prescription, Operarme will arrange a consultation with one of our specialists at a preferential price(subject to availability in the area). Contact us for more information.
During the consultation, you will be able to inform the doctor about the test you need. They may ask you for a medical report related to your condition, if required for the test you need to undergo.
Remember: on the day of the test, you must bring and present your Operarme purchase voucher and the medical prescription.

Refund of the amount if the test is not performed
If, after purchasing the test, you decide not to undergo it or the appointment date does not suit your needs, you may request a refund. In these cases, we will refund the full amount of your purchase without any issue.
To do so, please contact our Patient Service team before the appointment date, and we will process the refund quickly and easily.

What is Single fibre Electromyography?
Single fibre Electromyography, also known as a “jitter study”, is a neurophysiological test that helps to accurately assess the transmission of a nerve impulse from the nerve to the muscle (neuromuscular junction).
Thanks to this neurophysiological test, it is possible to diagnose conditions such as myasthenia gravis by detecting instability in the neuromuscular connection through the measurement of jitter.
The term jitter refers to the parameter that measures the instability between two muscle fibres belonging to the same motor unit.
Who is this test recommended for?
Primarily for patients with suspected disorders of neuromuscular transmission who may have one of the following conditions:
- Myasthenia gravis (this is the most common condition in this situation.)
- Patients with muscle weakness with no apparent cause.
- Patients with Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
- Patients undergoing investigation for diseases related to the neuromuscular junction.
- Patients with motor neurone diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

How is Single fibre EMG performed at the Hospital IMED Elche?
On the agreed appointment date, you attend the Hospital IMED Elche with your voucher and medical prescription to undergo the test. This diagnostic test is performed by a neurophysiology specialist and does not require any prior preparation:
- The specialist will give you instructions to lie on the examination couch and begin the test. First, the area is cleaned and a fine needle electrode is inserted into a specific muscle (usually in the facial area or in the hand) to record electrical activity.
- During the test, the specialist may ask you to contract or relax the muscle while the inserted needle records the muscle’s electrical activity on a monitor.
- In some cases, the specialist may also apply mild electrical stimulation to the nerve to assess its connection with the muscle.
- Once the assessment has been completed, the needle is removed from the area and the test is finished.
The duration of Single fibre Electromyography is approximately 30 to 60 minutes, always depending on the individual patient’s case.
Is this test painful?
As it is performed using a needle, it may be slightly uncomfortable for some patients, but do not worry, the discomfort is tolerable.
How long do the results of Single fibre EMG take?
Results are generally available within 48 hours after the test has been carried out. However, the turnaround time varies depending on the medical centre (in some cases, results are provided to the patient within 1 week).
