Purchase Diagnostic Test

What is included in this service

Purchase your diagnostic test under Operarme's guarantees

What is included?

  • With the purchase of the service, the diagnostic test is included in the selected city and hospital.

  • Once the test has been completed, the centre will inform you how long the results will take and will provide them in digital format.

Each centre has its own way of delivering the results:some will send them by email, while others will do so through their own applications or online platforms. In any case, the centre’s team will inform you how to access them at the end of the test.

  • In Spain, a medical prescription is required to undergo any diagnostic test. If you do not have one, you will need to attend a consultation with a specialist beforehand in order to obtain it.

Below, we explain the process step by step, both if you have a prescription and if you do not:

    You have a medical prescription

    1. Purchase the test as usual.
    2. Immediately afterwards, we will send you an email to the address used for the purchase with instructions on how to send us the medical prescription so that we can arrange the appointment.
    3. With the medical prescription, we will be able to verify that the diagnostic test purchased corresponds to the one indicated by the specialist.
    4. We will arrange your appointment with a date and time so that you can attend the hospital of your choice to undergo the test.

You do not have a medical prescription

If you do not have a medical prescription, Operarme will arrange a consultation with one of our specialists at a preferential price(subject to availability in the area). Contact us for more information.

During the consultation, you will be able to inform the doctor about the test you need. They may ask you for a medical report related to your condition, if required for the test you need to undergo.

Remember: on the day of the test, you must bring and present your Operarme purchase voucher and the medical prescription.

  • If, after purchasing the test, you decide not to undergo it or the appointment date does not suit your needs, you may request a refund. In these cases, we will refund the full amount of your purchase without any issue.

To do so, please contact our Patient Service team before the appointment date, and we will process the refund quickly and easily.

  • What is a Quantitative Electromyography test?

A Quantitative Electromyography is a neurophysiological test used to assess the electrical activity between muscles and nerves (the functioning of the muscles and the nerves that control them).

Unlike conventional electromyography, this test has a more numerical and objective approach, which helps the specialist detect early abnormalities and measure the progression of injuries of nerve or muscular origin.

This diagnostic test is essential in the diagnostic process of symptoms such as weakness, numbness, sharp pain or cramps in a specific muscular area of the body.

Which patients is this test usually recommended for?

This test is generally aimed at patients who present the following symptoms in a specific area of the body:

    • Muscle weakness with no clear cause.
    • Tingling or numbness.
    • Loss of sensitivity.
    • Tremors or cramps.
    • Symptoms related to neuromuscular diseases, such as myopathies or myasthenia.
    • Radiculopathies (disc herniations).
    • Peripheral nerve damage (possible neuropathies).

This test, also referred to as Quantitative EMG, is very useful for diagnosing conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), myasthenia, disc herniation compression, among other neurophysiological disorders.

  • Upon arrival at the the Hospital de la Reina room where the test is performed, you will sit or lie down on an examination couch, depending on the professional’s instructions, and before starting, the area to be examined will be cleaned.

The test consists of two parts:

    • First, a Nerve Conduction Study is carried out:adhesive electrodes are placed on the skin and small electrical stimuli are applied to measure the nerve’s response speed. This part of the test is painless, although it may cause some discomfort, but it is always tolerable.
    • In the second part of the test, Needle Electromyography is performed (Quantitative EMG): fine needle electrodes are inserted into specific muscles in order to record electrical activity, both at rest and during contraction. As previously indicated, this system allows the data to be analysed in a numerical and comparative way.

The Quantitative Electromyography test lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, always depending on the number of muscles and nerves that need to be examined.

Does this test require prior preparation?

No, this test does not require you to attend fasting or any prior preparation.

However, you should take the following recommendations into account:

    • Avoid using creams, oils or lotions on the area to be examined; it is better to attend with clean skin.
    • It is important to inform the specialist if you are currently taking medication and what type(especially anticoagulants or muscle relaxants); it is also important to inform them if you have a pacemaker.
  • A Quantitative Electromyography test through Operarme has a price of 195 €.

To undergo the test at the Hospital de la Reina, a Medical Prescription is required. If you do not have one, please contact our Patient Service team so they can help you manage the prescription. You can do this by calling at +34 91 141 33 56 or by filling in this form.

Once you purchase the test, you will receive a voucher by email with all the details, invoice and necessary information. Our Operarme Patient Service team will contact you within 24h following the date of purchase of your voucher to coordinate the appointment date that best suits you and carry out the diagnostic test.

On the day of the Quantitative EMG, you must bring the medical prescription.

Once you have the results, you can review them with your usual doctor or, if you need to, you can do so with one of our specialists in person by purchasing a private consultation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by calling at +34 91 141 33 56.
