What is included?

  • The purchase of the service includes the performance of the diagnostic test in the selected city and hospital.

  • Once you have taken the test, the medical centre will specify how long the results will take and will provide them to you in digital format.

Each hospital/clinic has its own way of providing the results: some will send them to you by email, others will send them via their own apps or online platforms. In either case, the hospital/clinic's team will tell you how to access them at the end of the test.

  • In Spain, a medical prescription is required for any diagnostic test. If you do not have one, you will need to see a specialist beforehand to obtain one.

Below, we explain the process step by step, whether you have it or not:

If you have a medical prescription

    1. Purchase the test as normal.
    2. Immediately afterwards, we will send you the instructions for you to send us the medical prescription to the e-mail address you used to make the purchase, so that we can manage the appointment.
    3. With the medical prescription we will be able to check that the diagnostic test purchased corresponds to the one indicated by the specialist.
    4. We will arrange your appointment with a date and time so that you can go to the hospital of your choice to undergo the test.

You don't have a medical prescription

If you do not have a medical prescription, Operarme will arrange a consultation with one of our specialists at a preferential price (subject to availability in the area). Contact us for more information.

During the consultation you will be able to inform the doctor about the test you need. He/she may ask you for a report in relation to your medical problem, if the test you need to have requires it.

If you do not have a prescription or report associated with the reason for the diagnostic test, it is likely that you will be referred to a face-to-face consultation. If this is your case, contact us for advice on how to proceed.

Remember: on the day of the test you must bring and show the Operarme voucher and the medical prescription.

  • If after purchasing the test you decide not to take it or the date of the appointment does not suit your needs, you can request a refund. In these cases, we will refund you the full amount of your purchase without any problem.

To do so, please contact our Patient Service Team before the date of the appointment, and we will manage the refund quickly and easily.

01. What is a Knee MRI?

A Knee MRI is a non-invasive test that allows detailed visualisation of the internal structures of the knee to assess and detect injuries, fractures, infections or meniscal tears that may be present.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging uses powerful magnets and radio waves to produce high-resolution images of the inside of the body, without using radiation.

This diagnostic test helps the specialist assess cases such as:

  • Diagnosis of traumatic or sports-related injuries affecting cartilage, tendons or ligaments.
  • Assessment of arthritic or osteoarthritic conditions.
  • Meniscal tears.
  • Assessment of bone fractures.
  • Joint infections.
  • Fluid accumulation.

02. What does a knee MRI involve?

On the day of the MRI, the patient puts on a gown and removes all metal objects. Then, following the medical team’s instructions, they lie on a movable table that slides into the MRI scanner, while the technician monitors the procedure from another room.

The technician explains how the patient should position themselves on the table to ensure the images are clear.

During the scan, it is common to hear loud noises, such as tapping or other sounds, so the medical team may provide earplugs or even play music to help block the noise.

If the patient feels distressed or claustrophobic, medication can be given to help them relax. In addition, patients generally have access to a button to alert the technician if they feel overwhelmed or anxious. However, most people complete the scan without difficulty.

A knee MRI does not require prior preparation, but there are a few recommendations to keep in mind, which we outline below.

What should you know before having a knee MRI?

  • It is generally not necessary to attend on an empty stomach; if fasting is required at the specialist’s request, the patient will be informed when the test is prescribed.
  • Avoid attending with metal objects such as jewellery, keys, watches or electronic devices.
  • It is important to wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • It is also very important to inform the medical team if the patient has a pacemaker or any metal implant.

A Knee MRI can last between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the area being examined and its complexity.

In addition, it is important for the patient to remain still during the scan, as any movement may blur the images and make it necessary to repeat the test.
