What is included?

  • With the purchase service is included the performing of the diagnostic test in the selected city and hospital.

  • Once the test is done, the centre will specify how long the results will take and will provide them to you in digital format.

Each centre has its own method for delivering results: some will send them by email, others will do so through their own applications or online platforms. In any case, the centre's team will indicate how to access them upon completion of the test.

  • In Spain, a medical prescription is necessary to perform any diagnostic test. If you do not have one, do not worry, we can offer you this additional service (+€12), under the criteria of a specialist, through a telemedicine consultation.

Below, we explain the process step by step, whether you have one or not:

You do have a medical prescription

    1. Purchase the test as normal.
    2. Immediately afterwards, we will send the instructions to the email address with which you made the purchase, so that you can send us the medical prescription and we can manage the appointment.
      1. With the medical prescription, we will be able to verify that the purchased diagnostic test corresponds to the one indicated by the specialist.
    3. We will manage your appointment with a date and time so that you can go to your preferred hospital to have the test performed.

You do not have a medical prescription

If you do not have a medical prescription, from Operarme we can arrange a telemedicine consultation for you, at an additional cost of €12, with one of the doctors from the Centro Médico Caser.

During the consultation, you will be able to inform the doctor about the test you need. They may request a report related to your medical problem, if the test you need to undergo requires it.

If you do not have a prescription or a report associated with the reason for the diagnostic test, it is likely that you will be referred to an in-person consultation. If this is your case, contact us so we can advise you on how to proceed.

Remember: on the day you undergo the test, you must bring and show the Operarme medical voucher and the medical prescription.

  • If, after having purchased the test, you decide not to undergo it or the appointment date does not suit your needs, you can request a refund. In these cases, we will reimburse the full amount of your purchase without any problem.

To do this, contact our Patient Service team before the date of the appointment, and we will manage the refund quickly and easily.

01. What is an Abdominal CT?

An Abdominal CT, also known as a computerised tomography scan of the abdomen, is a diagnostic imaging test that examines the abdominal area using X-rays and an advanced computer system to obtain detailed, cross-sectional images of the organs, soft tissues and blood vessels within the abdominal region.

Thanks to the technology used to perform this test, specialists can analyse details and alterations in the internal structure of the abdomen that would not be visible through other imaging tests.

It is a painless and non-invasive test for patients, and on occasion, it is performed with the aid of contrast to better visualise lesions, inflammation, or vascular alterations.

02. What can be detected with an Abdominal CT?

The Abdominal CT test allows us to identify and detect a varied range of illnesses and abdominal pain without an apparent cause. Among these pathologies are the following main conditions:

  • Inflammatory diseases and infections, such as appendicitis, diverticulitis or pancreatitis.
  • Detection of tumours, cysts or nodules present in organs such as the liver, pancreas, kidneys or stomach.
  • Injuries or trauma to the spleen or liver.
  • Detection of gallstones in the gallbladder or kidney stones in the kidneys.
  • Vascular alterations such as aneurysms, thrombosis, blood clots, narrowing of veins and arteries…
  • Internal haemorrhages.

03. How is an Abdominal CT performed?

On the day of the agreed appointment, the patient goes to the clinic to have the Abdominal CT performed.

This test does not require specific prior preparation, but it is important to take the following details into account before attending the appointment:

  • It is advisable to fast for 4-6 hours before the test, especially if it is to be performed with contrast.
  • It is also recommended to wear comfortable clothing and not to wear watches, piercings, jewellery, belts, keys… or any object that is metallic.
  • It is important to inform beforehand if the patient has a iodine allergy.
  • It is also important to inform before the test if there is a possibility of being pregnant.
  • Prior to the scan, the patient must tell the technicians if they suffer from or have a history of kidney diseases.
  • If the patient is taking regular medication or is undergoing treatment, it is also important to communicate this, especially if it is metformin for diabetes.

The test procedure is as follows:

  1. Once the patient is prepared in a gown and has removed all metallic objects they may be wearing, they lie flat on their back on the couch of the computerised tomography equipment.
  2. The couch moves slowly into the scanner, which is shaped like a giant doughnut or ring.
  3. The tube of the machine rotates around the patient to obtain multiple images from different angles. It is very important that the patient does not move during this process.
  4. At all times during the test, the technician will be in an adjacent room communicating with the patient and giving instructions if necessary.
  5. As the machine needs to capture detailed images of the abdomen, at a given moment, the technician may ask the patient to hold their breath for a few seconds so that the images obtained do not come out blurry.
  6. Upon completing the scan and obtaining the images, the test is concluded.
This test takes approximately 10-20 minutes.
