The operation of phimosis, circumcision consists of cutting the excess foreskin of the penis to leave the glans uncovered. This operation may be performed for medical reasons, such as phimosis, which is the difficulty in retracting the foreskin during erection, or for cultural reasons, as in many religions circumcision of the newborn is common.

The phimosis or circumcision surgery is a very simple procedure that is performed under local anaesthesia. Below we explain step by step how the operation is carried out.
Phimosis intervention, circumcision
- The patient arrives at the hospital and after confirming their arrival, they go to the waiting room until they are called to undergo the procedure.
- Once they have been called, they are taken to a room where they will be asked to undress and remove any metallic elements from their body (bracelets, piercings, necklaces, rings, etc.) before being asked to put on their operating clothes (gown, cap, pyjamas, etc.).
- You are then taken to the operating theatre where the surgeon, the anaesthetist and a nurse are present.
- Once there, the patient is placed on the stretcher, the penis is washed and disinfected and then the local anaesthetic is administered around the area to be operated on.
- During the operation, the patient feels the manipulation but never feels any pain or tugging thanks to the anaesthesia.
- The surgeon sections off the remaining part of the foreskin and stitches the area.
- Once sutured, the doctor will bandage the area and give the patient the corresponding instructions to prevent the stitches from coming out and to take care of the wound. He or she will also prescribe painkillers for possible pain (never aspirin).
- After this, the patient will be taken to get dressed and can then go home on their own.
